Distinguished tree in the courtyard,

How many leaves have fallen, who can tell?

Dry branches hang in the air,

The autumn wind wails even more mournfully.

Blue clouds over distant cliffs,

The lingering sunlight casts low upon the stairs.

Ancient meaning hidden in books,

Pure thoughts arise from within poetry.

As for the translation:

A Unique Tree in the Courtyard

In the courtyard, there stands a unique tree,

How many fallen leaves are there, one cannot decree.

Dry branches dangle, lifeless and sere,

As the autumn wind howls, grief becomes severe.

Beyond, cliffs and azure skies meet,

And lingering light descends upon the stair's seat.

In books, ancient wisdom does abide,

While poems evoke thoughts pure and wide.
