Lesson 1 A puma at large

In 1977, a puma was reported to be wandering the moors of Scotland. The police, in this bizarre case, tried to find the big cat, but without success. This incident serves to demonstrate the difficulties inherent in the management of wild animals. The puma in question was almost certainly an escaped pet. Fortunately, it was found before it could harm anyone.

In 1977, Mr. James Vance, an American from Cleveland, Ohio, decided to visit Ireland. He left behind a city suffering from extreme cold and arrived in Dublin, where the weather was quite mild. He was hoping to spend a warm and relaxing holiday in Ireland, but he was to be disappointed. Ireland was in the grip of a cold spell which lasted for the entire duration of his visit.

Mr. Wilson is a lawyer and he lives in a village. He has two daughters. They go to the village school. Every morning, the two girls walk to school, and Mr. Wilson drives to his office in the city.

Many people buy expensive clothes and shoes. They think these clothes are "smart". I do not agree with them. I am a student. I do not have much money. My father is a worker, and he has a large family to keep. So he cannot afford to buy me smart clothes.
