Bo Ya Cutting the Strings
During the Spring and Autumn Period of ancient China, there were two musicians named Bo Ya and Zhong Ziqi. They were both talented musicians who often played music together, their melodies touching the hearts of all who heard.
Bo Ya was a homebody, while Zhong Ziqi was an adventurer. One day, Bo Ya lost his beloved instrument, the qin, and was filled with grief. He abandoned everything to search for the lost music.
During his journey, he heard of Zhong Ziqi, a young man skilled in music, and decided to pay him a visit. When he met Zhong Ziqi, he was immediately impressed by his skill with the qin. The two became fast friends.
They played music together and shared their insights into music. However, Bo Ya always felt that something was missing. It wasn't until one day that he suddenly realized their music could never be the same again, for Bo Ya's qin was no longer with him.
So Bo Ya decided to cut the strings of his qin. He removed the strings and hung them on a wutong tree. This symbolized his letting go of the past, his attachment to lost friendship, and his pursuit of music.
Zhong Ziqi understood Bo Ya's determination and also cut the strings of his qin. The two embraced and wept, using music to convey their deep friendship.
From then on, the strings on the wutong tree never withered, as if telling the tale of the friendship and music between Bo Ya and Zhong Ziqi.
This story teaches us that friendship and music cannot be constrained by time and space. Even without the strings, true friendship and beautiful music will always reside in our hearts.
